Display
The game draws at this resolution. Its picture is 4:3, so a wide screen shows black bars at the sides, unless Widescreen is ticked: then the race view is 16:9 and shows more at the sides (the original's own option; the HUD keeps its 4:3 proportions, menus and loading screens stay 4:3), and the resolutions are the 16:9 ones. It changes some gameplay (what is on screen: breakable blocks, traffic, air-strike aiming) exactly as the original did with it on; knockouts are unaffected. Online, the host's Widescreen and resolution are every player's. Full screen: F11 or the Full screen button during a race; Esc leaves it. Anti-aliasing smooths jagged edges of the race view (the HUD stays sharp); Off draws exactly as the original. Online, each player's own. Graphics are the original's own settings, and Shadows and reflections: Brightness is its PC Gamma Correction (30 %, its start value, draws exactly as before; it can also be changed in the pause menu), each player's own online; the four boxes are its video dialog's Performance Settings (a new installation of the original starts with all four ticked; these defaults are the reference set-up's, Trilinear filtering off), the host's online. Shadows and reflections: the original draws them at a fixed size made for 640 × 480, so at higher resolutions they look blocky (as the original did); Sharp keeps their 640 × 480 sharpness at any resolution; each player's own online.
